What Does "Normal" Really Get You?

It's considered "normal" to eat cake to celebrate birthdays. It's considered "normal" to drink alcohol, a substance that is known to be toxic for the body, consistently. It's considered "normal" to go to brunch and eat until you're uncomfortable. What about the loads of candy we give our kids for Halloween, Valentine's Day, Easter? It's considered to be normal. Or, to eat foods loaded with chemicals and preservatives- it's "normal" to us. What about eating whenever you're hungry- whether it be physical or emotional- that's considered to be normal, right?

Lessons Learned From Bowling Night

Friday night was family night. Our 11 year old daughter picked bowling as the activity. We got a lane, no problem...and started having fun right away.  I began noticing the food coming out all around me. Two lanes over were cheeseburgers and fries. The people who we shared a lane with had bacon wrapped appetizers,  followed by a cheese board. On the right side were cream puffs dipped in chocolate. The alcohol was flowing all around. Our daughter ordered chocolate cake. My husband ordered a hummus platter. I ate a few veggies off the hummus tray.
