Think Twice About Tossing The Scale
Throwing your scale out seems to be all the rage these days. Some people find it to be liberating, choosing to focus on other factors of health, rather than the numbers associated with the scale.
I actually, used to be one of those people, as it caused a huge amount of anxiety for me. I have a different relationship with the scale now, which simply means I have different thoughts about it. I use the scale as a tool that serves me, rather than something that has power over me.
Why weigh yourself frequently? The scale can tell you that your weight is steadily increasing or decreasing earlier than you might be able to tell by the fit of your clothes, so you can take corrective action sooner. The scale also keeps you accountable. Knowing you're going to step on the scale each morning, helps you to monitor your food choices throughout the day. The scale can tell you about inflammation going on in your body. Sometimes, it's due to over exercise or stress, and sometimes it can be the food we're eating. The scale is also an indicator of water retention due to excess sodium intake and carbohydrate intake It's good to pay attention to all of these things, and become a student of your body.
In a nutshell, it's not the scale that is the problem- it's our thinking about the scale. The scale just reports data for us to use and interpret. I encourage my clients to build emotional and cognitive strength by stepping on the scale regularly and working on their ensuing thoughts and feelings. Nothing has the power to make you feel badly about yourself or cause stress in your life. Only you have the power to do that with your thoughts.
I can help you build mental and emotional strength and courage. Email lparkes@lightenup4ever.com for more information about my program.
