Why "Controlling" Your Weight Is Counterproductive

weightcontroliscounterproductive

We often associate weight loss and maintaining our ideal weight with “controlling” our weight. This thought is counterproductive for the following reasons:

  1. We really don’t control our body and that belief can lead to a feeling of frustration, which won’t lead to positive action. (Keep in mind, a negative feelings never leads to positive action or results.) We can take actions that create positive outcomes, but we are, ultimately, not in control of our body.

  2. Control feels tight and it keeps us from accessing our inner wisdom and highest potential. It’s our inner wisdom and higher brain that allows us to make plans and keep commitments that honor those plans.

  3. When we attempt to “control “ results, we often miss out all the lessons and joy that the journey brings. Isn’t that why we set goals in the first place? To grow as human beings and to have fun along the way?

  4. When we try to “control” outcomes, we don’t stay in our business. Our part is to keep showing up in ways that we feel good about.
