How To Confront Our Fear, Rather Than Escape Our Fear For Weight Loss Success!

Rationalization is a defense mechanism in which apparent logical reasons are given to justify behavior that allows us to escape our fears, vs. behavior that helps us become strong and healthy so we can face our fears

Rationalization happens in two steps:

  1. A poor decision is made- one that allows us to escape our fears, rather than confront them.

  2. A rationalization is performed, constructing a seemingly good or logical reason, as an attempt to justify the escape.

When we can’t come to terms with our own fear, we are unconsciously focused on escape, which is always self-defeating. The opportunity cost for escapism is not intentionally creating a life we love!

Escape artists are unwilling to connect with their fear and use it to become strong and courageous. It is the practice of seeking distraction from what normally has to be endured- fear! Escape artists never learn courage because they never face fear, danger, difficulty head on!

Fear comes in many different forms:

  • Anger (Fear of dying, fear of suffering)

  • Sadness (Fear of abandonment, fear of rejection)

  • Anxiety (Fear of failure, fear of unworthiness)

  • Boredom (Fear of stagnancy, fear of insignificance)

Instead of eating, drinking, watching TV, scrolling social media (or other forms of escapism) to avoid fear, we can choose to respond to fear in a conscious, intentional way.

Anger- We can use it to build a strong, healthy body vs. doing things that weaken our body!

Sadness- We can use it to build strong, trusted bonds (with sane people) vs. weaken bonds or become attached to the insane, unawake, unconscious.

Anxiety- We can develop a valuable skill/ trade and figure out how to use it for the good of mankind vs.waste our time & mental energy on things that don’t matter!

Boredom- We can seek diversification of experiences, skills, associations vs. refuse to stay small!

So, the answer to our problems, including not living at a weight we love, is to stop rationalizing our escape and start opening up to our fear, pinpointing our EXACT fear, and using it to motivate our expansion.
