How To Maintain Joy Around Eating To Live At Your Goal Weight
When I consider all of the “privileges” in my life, things that bring me joy, I think of: marriage, parenting, my work, working out, friends, fashion/ beauty, sex, entertaining, shopping etc. When I approach these things as “privileges”, I enjoy doing them. When I approach these things as “duties” they are lifeless and a burden. When I approach them as “needs”, I’m desperate for them and dependent on them, which usually leaves me disappointed and wanting more, or completely giving up on them.
When we view eating/food as a privilege we act in the following ways and the result is joy and satisfaction (this applies to how we relate to anything in life, or even life itself).
We pay attention to it- the smell, the sight, the flavor
We have gratitude for it
We have constraint around it (self-imposed limits)
We appreciate it/ savor it
We use my creativity to make it fun/ enjoyable ( keeping our goals in mind)
We’re thoughtful and plan it out according to our goals
We’re present with ourselves while experiencing
