How "Thought Chatter" Might Be Keeping You From Reaching/ Maintaining Your Weight Goal

Real thinking is when we consciously use powers of reason and logic to evaluate different options, problem solve, make decisions, strategize, etc. Thought chatter on the other hand is random and involuntary. It runs through our heads whether we like it or not. It includes thoughts about future and past, fragments of songs & conversations, daydreams, friends, celebrities, world events, advertisements, memorized sayings, slogans, etc.

Thought chatter makes us less able to use our rational powers because when we do have issues to deliberate, it streams through our minds and diverts our attention. It’s a whirl of mental material that keeps us from focusing on the situation/ problem/ challenge at hand. It’s this noise and image producing machine that keeps us jumping randomly and chaotically from one mental association to the next. It’s the thought chatter that causes our human mind to malfunction and limit our potential.

Meditation is a great way to help thought chatter become slower and quieter on a permanent basis. Less consumption of media is another good way to help reduce thought chatter. We feel calmer and more inwardly stable and whole as our thought chatter fades. When we feel calm and inwardly stable we’re able to see situations realistically and use our rational minds effectively. We eat less for emotional reasons and make better lifestyle choices from this place of strength & stability. Learning how to quiet “thought chatter” is a skill and is truly empowering in every area of our lives.
