Enslavement: Being used to serve someone else’s agenda

Bondage: Subjection to a force, power, or influence.

Bondman: A person who is owned by someone

When we developed a prefrontal cortex, we become afraid of death and future loss. When we became afraid, we became controllable. Humans are exploitable because of our awareness of death & future loss.

Because we have an awareness of death & future loss, we constantly feel threatened. We become slaves to whatever makes us gives us momentary relief. Whenever we get a hit of neurochemicals (dopamine, oxytocin, serotonin, and endorphins), we feel momentary relief from our anxiety and stress. Therefore, we’re slaves to whatever “rings our bell”- lights up our brain with dopamine, oxytocin, endorphins, and serotonin. But this doesn’t mean we have to be ENSLAVED!

Enslavement- being a slave to someone else’s agenda- ended for me when I became aware of my love for neurochemicals. I’m now able to carefully plan how I’m going to get my dopamine, oxytocin, endorphins, and serotonin each day. I get my “feel goods” by engaging in activities that relieve my stress/anxiety AND increase my long term safety/ security.

I do things that build up my trusted tribe, increase my health, strengthen my marriage, and build my business. Everyday I become a little stronger, a little more secure, a little more confident in my skills & abilities. I refuse to get my “feel goods” from anything that doesn’t make me stronger and more anchored.

You get to decide how you’re going to get your “feel goods” each day! The following are some ways I’ve found work for me:

Dopamine: schedules, routines, practices, a clear sense of right/ wrong, assertive communication, self awareness (becoming aware of internal sensations, sixth sense, posture, etc), progress towards precise goals/ clear intentions, acknowledging victories, eating the right foods, physical exercise

Serotonin: deep breathing, composure, fact based/ solution based thinking, big picture perspective, sunlight, time in nature

Endorphins: adventure, new challenges, laughing, fun, creativity, stretching

Oxytocin: great sex w/ my husband :), hugging, assertive listening, eye contact, giving sincere compliments, exchanging ideas, collaboration towards common goal, care/ empathy, encouragement

When we embrace our love for neurochemicals, and thoughtfully choose how we’re going to incorporate action in our day that give us these “feel goods”, we’re no longer ENSLAVED to other people’s agendas. We become masters of our own destiny.
