Practicing Self Compassion To Empower Your Weight Loss Journey
Self-compassion is an essential component in building a trusting relationship with ourselves and living at a weight we love. Self-compassion can be broken down into three parts. The first is self-kindness. When we’re “kind” to ourselves, we extend gentleness, consideration, and understanding towards ourselves. The second part of self-compassion is remembering our humanity. We make mistakes and we learn from our mistakes- that is the human experience. It is how we grow in wisdom and maturity. The third part of self-compassion is detaching our worth from having “perfect” judgment or behavior. However we estimate our value as a human, we want to make sure that estimate isn’t based on “perfection”.
Self-compassion is one of the keys to having a fruitful and joyful life. Next time you’re tempted to beat yourself up for a mistake, whether food-related or otherwise, try studying yourself with compassion and curiosity. Ask yourself why you chose the behavior you chose, and what you’d do differently next time. You may even try writing the lesson down on paper and “moving on”! Wishing you much self-compassion and all the joy that accompanies having a trusting relationship with yourself!
