Navigating the Restaurant Scene Like A Boss

Navigating the Restaurant Scene Like A Boss

Many of our eating intentions get sabotaged when we step into a restaurant. ”Diets“ go off the rails when people eat out. Temptation happens in bars and restaurants around other people eating. But, what I promote isn't a "diet"-  I teach people how to live life at the weight they desire. So how can we navigate eating out and staying true to our goals?

Decisions ahead of time is key. Decide before you go, what would work for you on the menu. If you're not able to actually see the menu, have an idea of what you will order. An example would be, "salad with chicken and half the dressing"....or, "steak and veggies". Remember, decisions you make ahead of time are much more serving  than decisions you make "in the moment".

Notice the portion sizes. Sharing an entree is a great option or taking half of the meal home is another solution. The server can box up half your meal "to go" and bring you the remaining half if you know it's going to be more than you want to eat. Also notice how items are prepared and watch the "extras" that come with salads. You can be be as detailed as you want when you order.

Awareness of how you're feeling is also crucial to sticking to your goals. Anxiety levels often increase while eating out, so be mindful of your managing your breathing and state in a restaurant.

Finally, your mindset is the most important thing to manage. "I choose not to eat that" is much more empowered than, "I can't eat that". You can feel happy about choosing to focus on your long term goals, rather than giving into how you feel in the moment. The end result is feeling proud of yourself, and there's no better feeling in the world.
