3 Skills You Need To Reach/ Maintain Your Weight Goal When "The Going Gets Tough"
Recently, life got really tough. It happens. I’m not choosing self pity. I choose to grow from every circumstance that comes my way. I feel powerful and alive when “the going gets tough”. Although the rough patches are scary, it’s a chance for me to use my brain to create results I love.
These are the three skills I relied on as I responded to difficult circumstances to create results I love:
Self Leadership- I fully allow all emotions and I respond to my emotions according to my values, roles, and goals. I don’t overeat to numb my emotions and I don’t skip workouts because I’m overcome with sadness, disappointment, or fear. I remind myself who I am and respond to my emotions in ways that align with that person.
Self Compassion- I’m warm and affectionate towards myself when encountering pain and personal failure. I don’t ignore lessons or criticize myself for making mistakes. I simply stay present, observe, and choose the next best action.
Conscious Breathing- When intense fear creeps and I’m tempted to stop using my logic & reasoning to solve problems, I practice deep belly breathing. I take 10 long deep inhales (filling my belly with air) and practice equally slow exhales. After, I consider the facts and a devise a course of action.
Life is about growing in skills and capability. I’m grateful for the rough patches because they can be an opportunity for growth,. I hope practicing these skills helps you to face difficulties with focus, determination, and kindness towards yourself so you can create results you love AND stay on track with your weight goal.
