4 Things To Remember To Exercise Like A Pro
I could go on and on about the benefits of exercise, but you probably already know that for a healthy mind, lean body, and robust aging, exercise is a must. So let’s assume you’re already sold on the fact that exercise is awesome and helps you feel amazing. There are some things to know when planning your exercise, however, that will help you get the most from your routine.
Engage in a variety of exercise….this means mix it up between strength training and cardiovascular endurance training. You’ll also want to switch between heavier/ shorter duration exercise and less intense/ longer duration exercise.
Switch it up. If you choose running one day as your cardiovascular endurance training, choose swimming or biking the next. Or, if you run long and slow one day, choose sprints the next.
Push yourself to improve. If you’re lifting weights, increase your weight and/ or reps over a period of time. If you’re doing pushups, aim for more than you did last week. If you’re running increase your time and/ or distance.
Yoga, stretch, massage, and foam roll. Plan activities to help you recover and maintain your flexibility.
Whatever you do, make sure you tell yourself a story that creates joy for yourself around the exercise. Aim to move most days of the week, leaving a day or two for rest. Take care of your body so that it takes care of you for a long time to come. You deserve it!
