Desire Is Created By Thoughts
One of the most powerful thoughts we have but don't even know we're having is, "I want that". It seems like such an innocent, little thought, but even just a little thought like that perpetuates feelings of desire, and we don't even notice we're thinking that thought. Why? Because we've programmed it into our brain and repeated it so many times that it's going on beneath our conscious awareness.
The higher brain (prefrontal cortex) is the part of your brain that makes you human. This is where we learn new things, reason, think, and plan. The lower brain, however is efficient. It doesn't question anything. It doesn't argue. It doesn't think logically. All it does is produce a repeating program that you've programmed it to produce. The repeating unconscious program that sounds like, "I need relief. I want a cookie. Desire the cookie. Eat the cookie."
To stop the cycle of desire, we can take a "pause " when we have an intense desire for something that's not on our eating plan. We can choose to become aware of the desire, breathe into it, think about our long term goal with the prefrontal cortex, and let the desire dissipate. You don't resist the desire, you don't give into the desire, you simply notice it. This way, you become "boss" of your desire- simply by allowing it. This is a skill that takes time to master, but once you do, you'll become invincible. For more information on how to become "boss of your desire" email me: lparkes@lightenup4ever.com.
