Paleo, Keto, Vegetarian...How To Know Which Is Right For You

Diet books try to convince you that you can’t trust yourself and that you, therefore, need to follow the advice of the book. The truth is that we have so many styles of eating that incorporate different macronutrient ( protein, carbohydrates, fat) combinations to choose from. Once you’ve cleaned all of the processed food, sugar, flour, and alcohol from our systems, you can tap into your internal cues and eat what combination is right for you.

Yes, YOU get to determine which style of eating works best for you. Do you thrive on a high carbohydrate, moderate protein, and low fat diet? If you do, you’d get best results by cutting out fatty meats and following vegetarian principles. Do you feel best on a high fat, moderate protein, low carbohydrate diet? If so, a keto type diet will create the results you’re looking for. Do you feel best on a moderate fat, moderate protein, moderate carbohydrate diet? A Paleo type diet would serve you best.

Different nutrition plans work best for different people based on which metabolic category you fall into:

  1. Protein type- Protein types (fast oxidizers) tend to be frequently hungry. They crave fatty, salty foods. They tend towards fatigue, anxiety, and nervousness. They do best on a Keto type protocol.

  2. Carbohydrate type- Carbo types (slow oxidizers) have relatively weak appetites, problems with weight management, type A personalities, and are often dependent on caffeine. These individuals do best on a healthy vegetarian type nutrition plan.

  3. Mixed type- Mixed types (neither fast or slow oxidizers) have average appetites, crave sweet and starchy food, and have relatively little trouble with weight control. Mixed types thrive by eating equal portions of protein, vegetables, and fat. They thrive by eating a Paleo type protocol.

This advice is a guideline only. It’s important to note that we metabolize differently according to the exercise we engage in, our muscle mass, and the types of food we eat, so what works for us at one point in our journey, may change. Ultimately, it will be your body’s response to dietary tweaks that will confirm whether you’re on the right track or not. Once you bring more awareness to how your body responds to different macronutrient ratios of food, you’ll notice a pattern forming. Drop your conditioned thoughts about food and receive guidance from your intuition- and digestive system!
